Pool Party time! It has already been a year since I drummed up the courage to put on a swimsuit and go to a pool party at my friend Colleen’s house (posted about this in my blog and my website a year ago). Well, with another year of transitioning behind me, I of course accepted the invitation from Colleen this year 😉

The party this year was a ladies only affair. It was titled “Dicksmas in July” so it was basically like a bachelorette party, although no one was getting married! It was a blast. There was a phallic themed white elephant gift exchange and I received these little guys:

They are a wine stopper, corkscrew, and bottle opener!

We also played a game called Ladies Night, where you read a card and then the group decides which one of us the card describes best. Here are the cards I received.. I guess my friends know me well?!..

I received these in order from the bottom up.. which was hilarious. They are aware of my social media accounts, obviously! When I was given the one about the perkiest bosom, I said, “Well, my boobs are the youngest (newest) ones here!”

This morning I feel well rested and happy. I am so grateful to have this group of women as my friends. I would drop anything to help them out if they ever needed me and I believe they would do the same.

For any of you out there who look at this post and say, “I wish I had a group of friends like that..” I truly believe you can. Just under two years ago, I had moved to this area. I knew no one. I was in the beginning stages of my transition and felt utterly alone. My mantra for that situation was just like any other challenge I have to face.. “this is temporary and it will get better, if I work to make it better.” Of course it was very tough to do this while transitioning, but it is not impossible. Also, friendships that start during or post transition come with no baggage of the person knowing your former life. They have not put you in a box yet. As I have mentioned in the past, this group of friends was built by using Meetup.com, which is just a social event website for groups of people who share certain interests. It is a great way to make friends. My group still uses Meetup, but mostly we plan private events on Facebook for our core group. I am so happy I am part of that core group.

Anyhow, the holiday weekend continues (Independence Day in the U.S.). I have some fun stuff planned and will post more later.
